Skull and clock across a back
Realism · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A large tattoo covers the upper back and shoulder, showing a shaded skull with a pocket watch and a clock face with Roman numerals. The linework is soft and the shading is smooth, with dark, dripping edges that fade into the skin. The image is in black and grey and is framed from behind, with the subject's head and face out of view.

Tomasz came in late with rain on his collar, saying the bus had stalled by the hospital roundabout. Nell pointed him towards the flour bin, where a silver pocket watch hung from a nail on a tangled chain. It had belonged to the old owner and had stopped years ago. She kept it there because it reminded her that ovens and timers were not the only clocks worth trusting. 'Open the case,' she said. 'There's something of Dev's inside.'
He prised the back open and found a folded slip of paper in his uncle's cramped handwriting: Dough keeps its own time. Listen to the bench, not the wall. Nell laid her palm flat on the nearest proving cloth and felt the dough breathing under it, pushing gently back against her hand. It was ready ten minutes early. She pulled the first tray from the oven, the crusts blistering gold, and the smell rolled out into the lane.
By six the window had turned grey and the first customers stood shuffling on the step. Nell wiped the flour from the watch face with her thumb, leaving the hands where they had stopped, pointing at the moment the bread had been right.
