Stormtrooper helmet on upper arm
Dotwork · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A stylised stormtrooper helmet is tattooed in solid black with a speckled, dotted outline that gives the edges a spattered look. Streaks of red run across the brow and down the centre of the helmet, while the rest of the design is left as bare skin. The image is a close, slightly angled photograph of the upper arm, with the tattoo filling the centre of the frame.

Dear Mags,

The helmet came in on the 6.14 from Crewe, wrapped in brown paper and parcel tape, with a note in capitals that said FOR THE SHOP WINDOW, PLEASE DON'T MAKE IT PRETTY. I have never been asked to make something ugly on purpose, so I sat on my stool under the lamp at the back of Platform Two Models and did exactly what the note said. I gave it a black visor, scraped the edges rough with an old toothbrush, and flicked the dots on with a dental pick until the outline looked spattered from a distance.
Then came the red. Ten past nine last night, Dev knocked my elbow and the pot of crimson went straight across the brow in three long pulls, and I stood there swearing at the ceiling tiles. I meant to wipe it off this morning. Instead I stepped back and it looked as if someone had run down the front of it in a hurry and not stopped to look behind.
I've left it on the windowsill beside the timetables. Nobody has come for it. The number on the note has been disconnected, and when I rang it this morning a recording said the line was no longer in service. Trains still go through every twenty minutes, and each time one pulls out the helmet catches the light and throws a little smear of red across the glass.
Love to the boys, and tell Dad I'm not eating enough.
