The sheet shows several horizontal bands of tribal-style designs, including repeated stylised tiki faces with open mouths and fanged teeth, curling spirals, and geometric hatching. The linework is solid black with bold shapes and no shading, printed or drawn on white paper. The bands are stacked evenly down the page, with the face motifs forming the central rows.

Before the church clock had finished striking four, Dilys Penhallow was already at the oven door with her sleeves rolled to the elbow. Her nephew Tom came down the back stairs yawning, carrying the box of wooden stamps his grandfather had left in the flour bin. The stamps were all bands, one pattern running into the next, and in the middle of the box was a block with a face cut into it: a broad flat nose, eyes like knots in wood, and a mouth full of pointed teeth.

"That one bites," said Dilys. "Your grandfather said so, and he never once lied about bread." Tom laughed and pressed it into a tray of dough anyway, and the loaf rose under it with a sigh, the pattern printed clean across the crust. Every loaf that morning got the bands, two faces side by side, and every one came out of the oven with a dark edge, as if the teeth had been at it.
The lane outside was still black. A fox came to the bins, sniffed, and sat down to watch the window. Tom said the fox looked hungry. Dilys said foxes always did, and tore him the heel of the first loaf, still too hot to hold, and let him stand in the doorway to eat it.
When the sky went grey over the chapel roof, Tom turned the stamp over to clean it and found the teeth had worn down in the flour, smooth as old shells, and the face had gone a little kinder. Dilys took it from him, pressed it once into the flour, and said nothing about it at all.
