Triumph script with roses on chest

Lettering · Chest · Black and grey · Photo

The lettering reads "Triumph" in a flowing script with heavy black outlines and grey shading, sitting across the upper chest. Two shaded roses with leaves and small swirling flourishes frame the word on each side, and a tattooed arm is visible at the right edge. The photo is taken straight on at close range, with the subject's lower face cropped at the top of the frame.

Mother thought it was foolishness. The vicar's wife thought it was worse. Only Old Ada from the cottage by the ford stood with her arms folded and said the tree had been waiting for someone to ask it something properly. He planted them either side of the beech, shouting at the ground as he pressed the soil down. By noon the petals had opened pink and stubborn against the grey bark.

When the prize for the largest marrow was called, nobody answered, so the judges looked round for the boy who had grown it. It was Dennis who finally stepped forward, grinning, and held up the marrow the way a man holds up a trophy he never expected to win.
