Two blue tit tattoos on wrists
Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo
Two matching songbirds, each resembling a blue tit with a yellow breast, green back and dark blue cap, sit side by side on the inner wrists. The birds are shown in a perched pose with fine detail in the feathers and soft shading across the bodies. Both designs are rendered in green, yellow and blue against pale skin, and the hands are pressed together against a plain light background.

Now sit nearer the range, because the wind's come round to the north and it'll find every gap in the back kitchen before supper. You want to know about the birds. My grandfather, Tom Pryce, kept the hundred-acre field at Coldharbour, and the winter he buried his second ewe, the snow lay to the top of the gatepost. He had nothing left to feed the hens but a heel of bread and a lump of suet, so he hung the suet in the hawthorn by the yard and grumbled at the cold every morning he did it.

Two blue tits came for it. Little things, yellow down the front like butter melting on a cold plate, green along the back, with caps the colour of the sky just before the stars come out. They were a pair, and they never once squabbled over the suet. One fed while the other sat on the gate and watched the yard, and when the dog came round the barn they both went quiet at once, as if somebody had called them by name.
Come March the cap on the bigger one had gone ragged at the edges. Tom said that was the weather. I say the cold had taught them to share. On the morning the thaw finally came he went out with the bucket and found them sat side by side on the gatepost, close enough that their feathers touched, and he stood there so long the milk froze in the pail. He never did hang the suet again after that. He just kept the gate shut and the lane clear, and the birds came back every winter after, and so, I suppose, will I.
