For a moment nothing happened, then the sheet lifted off my fingers, turned once, and settled flat against the underside of the dome, like someone checking a bus timetable.

This morning it was gone, and the sheet with it. I'm posting this from Cairo on Friday, so you'll have it before the sand gets into the envelope. Tell Mum I'm fine. Tell her I'm coming home by the usual route, and if anything with lights on turns up in the garden, give it biscuits.
