Wanderlust script on the inner wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo is the word wanderlust written in a flowing cursive script in black ink, running diagonally along the inner wrist. The linework is thin and even, with smooth joins between letters and no shading or fill. The background is soft pink cherry blossom with a grass lawn, and the wearer has turquoise beaded and chain bracelets stacked above the tattoo.

Nobody had asked. Tomasz Brenner, who never finished anything, put up his hand.

"It's a sort of itch," she said. "It starts in the wrist, and then your feet go."
Outside the window the cherry tree in the playground had come into full blossom overnight, pink against a sky the colour of wet slate. She had planted it herself the spring her husband took a job in Lisbon and sent postcards instead of coming home, a fact she had never told the children and never would.
After the bell she found Tomasz still at his desk, copying the word in pencil, the letters lopsided and leaning like fence posts in wind. She sat beside him and guided his hand through the first loop. "Slower," she said. "The word has to arrive before you do." He wrote it three times. When he had gone, the blackboard still held her version, and beneath it, in his careless hand, a small arrow pointing out of the window toward the blossom.
