Wildflower quote with vines on back
Lettering · Back · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo spells out the phrase "Do you suppose she's a wildflower" in a simple sans serif script, with the words set within looping vine scrolls drawn in black outline. Two flowers with yellow, purple and pink petals and green leaves sit at the top and bottom of the design, adding the only colour. The composition is centred on the upper back and the lettering reads clearly across the skin.

Sit yourself down on the bench, love, the four-fifteen is late and I've got the sun on my back. You want the tale of Hollins Halt? Mind the wind off the cutting, it takes hats and it takes manners.

Hollins was a single platform with a waiting room the size of a pantry, and the signalman's girl, Edie Marlow, was the only one who ever walked its length in spring. Every March she went along the embankment with a biscuit tin of seed, pressing handfuls into the cinders between the sleepers. Arthur Penhale, the stationmaster, told her the ballast was for ballast, not bluebells. She told him the ballast had waited long enough for something to happen to it.
Then the surveyors came with their long chains and clipboards, measuring the cutting for a new line that would straighten the whole valley. The foreman asked Edie what the green stuff was for. She said it was for after, when the rails had gone and somebody needed a reason to stop. He laughed, wrote obstructed by flora in his book, and went back to town for his tea.
The valley came up purple and yellow that summer, so thick the engineers lost their pegs in it. The new line went round by the river instead. Edie kept her tin on the windowsill until she died, and the old men still say that if you stand on Hollins platform long enough, you'll see a petal skip across the sleepers with no wind to move it. Mind your step. That's her, checking the timetable.
