Alice and White Rabbit thigh tattoo
Thigh · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows Alice sitting, a White Rabbit in a waistcoat holding a fan, and a potion bottle at the top, linked by handwritten script that reads part of a quote. The work is in black outline with some shading on the bottle and the rabbit's clothing, and the lettering is set in a flowing line across the skin. The composition runs diagonally down the outer thigh, with the figures spaced around the script.

The label said DRINK ME in letters somebody had gone over twice with a pen.

She drank it. Don't look at me like that, the whole harbour knows it. She shrank, not all at once but the way a tide goes out, an inch at a time, until she was no taller than the bollard by the slipway and the gulls took an interest. A white rabbit in a waistcoat came hurrying along the quay, checking a pocket watch, and Mags stood on her tiptoes and told him, very clear, "I knew who I was this morning, sir, but I've changed a few times since then."
He never answered her. He only tipped his hat and went on, and that was the turn of it, because a woman who knows who she is can be made small and still be herself. Mags walked home along the wall, grew back somewhere around the chapel steps, and not once in forty years did she say which of the two of them had been the mad one. Now pass me that twine.
