Bicycle tattoos reading Life has no limits
Fine line · Other · Black and grey · Photo
Two matching tattoos sit on the tops of a pair of feet, one showing a bicycle with script reading Life has and the other a road bike with script reading no limits. The linework is thin and clean, with light grey shading in the wheels and frames. The feet rest in turquoise pointed heels on a grey concrete surface, with black rolled trousers visible above.

Above the village of Carrow the road climbed in hairpins for nine miles before it reached the pass, and nobody who lived below it had ever ridden to the top. Men walked it with mules. She carried a tin of oil, a spoke key and a book she could not read, because the book had come with the bicycle and she liked the look of the pictures. At the first bend she got off and pushed. At the third she got back on. The people of Carrow kept a saying that the mountain was patient and the rider was not, and they said it again when they saw her gears click over at the fourth switchback, going up in long grey strokes.
She reached the top at dusk, cold to the bone, with her chain singing. Below her the valley lay in its own shadow. Beside the cairn a shepherd sat smoking, and he asked her what she thought she was doing. She told him she was going over. He laughed until he coughed, and then he saw her face and stopped.
"Then go over," he said, "and send me a card."
She did not send a card. She rolled down the far side with the brakes off, and by the time the lights of the next valley came up she was singing, and the mountain, which had been patient all along, let her go.
