Bird and script tattoos on thigh and arm
Traditional · Thigh · Mixed · Photo
A woman in a floral high-waisted cutout swimsuit is shown from the chest to the thighs, with her face out of frame. A small bird with blue wings and an orange breast is tattooed on her thigh, with a script word beneath it, and a rose and script tattoo sits on her upper arm. The bird is in colour, while the arm pieces are mostly black and grey with shading, and the photo is set against a plain grey background.

Dear Maureen, you'll think I've gone soft, but there's a bird on the ninth-floor walkway that turns up every morning at seven, bang on, and perches on the rail by the bin chute like it pays rent. Blue back, orange front, the colour of a Jaffa cake if Jaffa cakes had wings. Mrs Okonedo on eleven says it's a robin that's been somewhere posh, but I know a robin when I see one, and this isn't it.

I've taken to leaving crusts out. Jones next door says it's a bluebird blown off course from Cardiff, and he'd know, being the only one of us who's been further than the Isle of Wight. He named it after his old dog, which seemed a bit much for something that weighs less than my teabag. Still, the name stuck, and now the lot of us ask after Jones the way you'd ask after a grandchild.
Last Tuesday the lift broke again, so I was on the stairs with a bag of shopping when I found Jones sitting on the landing below mine, crying into his cap. The bird had come down the stairwell somehow and was pecking at a crust he'd dropped. He'd been trying to catch it for an hour, and when I told him it only came for the crusts, he laughed so hard he had to sit down on the step.
I've reported the lift to the council. I haven't mentioned the bird, because some things are better kept between floors. Come up at the weekend and bring a decent loaf. You can meet it yourself, and you can tell me I'm daft to my face. Love, Dennis.
