Colour realism tattoo of a blindfolded, fanged figure with long flowing hair and red blood on a person's upper back and shoulder blade.

Blindfolded horror figure with blood on upper back

Realism · Back · Mixed · Photo

A pale figure with long, wind-swept dark hair wears a grey blindfold and bares a mouth full of pointed teeth. Red, dripping gore spills from the lower face and neck area, while a small partial bat outline is visible at the left edge. Soft grey shading gives the face and hair a realistic finish, set against vivid red blood on the skin of the back and shoulder.

The bell for bed nine rang at ten past three, and Priya was the only one on the night shift who didn't look up from the drug trolley. Dev took the corridor instead, past the sluice room and the fire door with its green running man, the one that never quite latched.

The woman in bed nine had come in through A&E with a split scalp and a name nobody could spell twice. A strip of grey cotton covered her eyes, knotted at the back by a student who swore she'd been asked for it. Her hair lay across the pillow as though a window were open somewhere, though every window on the ward was sealed. In April a bat had got into the ventilation above bay C, and the cleaners still crossed themselves at the grille.

"Can you hear the lift?" she asked him. He could. It had been going up and down since midnight with nobody in it. He checked her obs. Pressure normal, sats fine, pupils not visible to him under the cloth. When he reached for the chart she turned her face towards his hand, and he saw her mouth, and the smile that came with it was the one he had seen a hundred times on the wards, the look people wear when the morphine lands and the room goes soft at the edges.

He went back to the desk and found his biro gone from the pot. On the chart for bed nine, below the drug round, there was a line in handwriting he didn't know: Tell the porter the lift is still going down.
