Brave script with arrow design
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
The image shows the word Brave in white, connected brush-style script with a slightly speckled, distressed texture. A thin white arrow with feathered fletching runs horizontally beneath the word. The design sits centred on a plain black background with no skin, body or other elements visible.

Your great-aunt Dorothy ran this oven the year the mill shut. She was a small woman with flour in her eyebrows, and she had a habit of writing on things. Lists on the back of her hand. Prices on the chalkboard in capitals. And one morning, when the men from the canning works came past with their faces gone grey, she took a sign-writer's brush and painted one word across the shutter in curling letters, with a thin arrow underneath pointing left, down the towpath toward the city.
People thought she meant leave. Go on, get out while there's a train. Half the street did. Dorothy stood in her doorway every morning at four, flour to the elbow, and watched them trudge past with their cardboard cases.
Then one Tuesday the girl from the post office asked her, straight out, why the arrow pointed away from the shop if she wanted folk to stay. Dorothy wiped her hands on her apron and said, "Look at the feathers, love. An arrow's fletching is the end it leaves from, not the end it's going. Everything you're flying from is the warm bit." Listen to that. Hear the crust crackle? That's your loaves telling you they're ready. Take them out now, quick, before they forget what they are.
