Black flash design of the word Breathe in flowing script lettering with a looped underline flourish, shown on a white background.

Breathe script lettering with flourish

Lettering · Black and grey · Flash

The design spells the word Breathe in large, flowing script with a looping swash extending from the top stroke and a decorative underline below the letters. The linework is solid black with uniform weight and no shading, so it reads as a clean silhouette. The composition is centred on a plain white background with generous margins around the lettering.

You have the lift to yourself at twenty to four, and the ward's double doors sigh shut behind you before you reach the nurses' station. Someone has left a radio murmuring on the desk, a shipping forecast nobody is listening to. Dell has pinned a sticky note to the monitor for you: bed nine, the man who insists on the window, won't settle unless somebody talks to him about boats.

So you talk about boats. You tell him about the ferry you rode as a girl out of Lymington, how the wake fanned behind it in a long curl like the tail of a capital letter, and he corrects you on the name of the vessel. His breathing has a catch in it, a hitch at the top of each rise, and you find yourself counting it the way you were taught, in for four, out for six, your own chest keeping time without asking permission.

Near five the sky over the car park goes the colour of weak tea. Bed nine is asleep with his mouth open and one hand loose on the blanket. You stand a while at the window and listen to the ward settle around you: the drip of the sink, a trolley wheel ticking somewhere down the corridor, the forecast finally ending with a sigh of static.

On the whiteboard, someone has written the night's last task in green marker and underlined it twice with a long, looping swash. Check bed nine. You do, and he is still breathing, slow and even, the way the tide goes out.
