Be Brave script lettering with arrow

Lettering · Black and grey · Flash

The image shows the words Be Brave in white flowing script with a distressed, speckled texture, set above a long arrow with feathered fletching and an open arrowhead. The lettering uses bold upstrokes and looped capitals, and the arrow sits on a slightly darker band across the lower half. The design is set on a plain black background with no colour, shading or body part visible.

Dear Nell, the fletcher's boy came round again this morning asking after you, though I told him you'd gone to Bristol and wouldn't be back before the harvest dance. Father has stopped talking about the mill accounts and started talking about the railway timetable, which tells me he has been reading the Gazette in the outhouse again. Mrs Pargeter says the Hollins girl went off on the Tuesday train with a case and a hat and no ticket back. Everyone in the high street is pretending not to watch the platform.

I went down to the field behind the church on Sunday and shot a dozen arrows at the old haybale, the way you taught me, letting the string go before I had time to think. The third one I did not retrieve. It sailed clean over the hedge and I heard it drop somewhere past the Carvers' orchard. I left it there. You once told me that a shot you have not decided on is only a wish with feathers.

So here is my decision, written plainly. Come home at Christmas or don't, but if you stay wherever you have landed, write to me the way you used to, with the words printed across the top of the page so I can't pretend I've forgotten how it's done. Be brave, Nell. The arrow is yours now. Your loving sister, Tilly.
