Circular emblem with Deathly Hallows on wrist
Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A solid black circular emblem sits on the inner wrist. A rebel-style insignia with a raised fist and wing-like shapes is combined with the Deathly Hallows symbol of a triangle, circle and vertical line in the centre. The bold, filled black shapes are sharp and even, and the design is centred on the wrist against plain skin.

The tax-men came down the causeway at first light with their wax tablets and their red cloth banners, and Hesper kept counting salt sacks because stopping would have meant looking at them. The overseer, Corvan, pressed a sealed order into her hand and said the gates of Ostrum would stay shut until the marsh folk paid in full. She folded the order into quarters and put it in her apron without reading it twice.

That night the salt-workers met in the boathouse, forty of them, hands grey with brine. Old Ansel lifted his right fist, and one by one the others did the same, their knuckles throwing shadows up the timbers until the wall looked like a flock of wings. They had no swords. They had a plan to cut the causeway at the low tide, and a plan was all they had ever needed to be dangerous.
Before dawn a ferryman no one knew rowed up to the boathouse steps. He carried no lantern and wore no name. He set three things on the boards: a ring of pale stone, a cloak the colour of wet ash, and a length of reed stripped straight as a staff. 'Whoever keeps all three,' he said, 'walks the causeway and is not seen.' Ansel reached for the cloak. Hesper took the stone, and its cold settled into her palm as if it had been waiting there all along.
At the turn of the tide she walked out alone. The guards looked through her, past her, at the water. At the gate she pressed the stone to the iron lock, and the bar slid back with a sound like a long breath let out. Behind her the ferryman's boat was already pulling away from the shore, empty, its oars dripping silver. She understood then that he had never been selling anything, only asking which of the three she would carry.
