Crowned panther head on a forearm
Traditional · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
A snarling black panther head wears an orange and yellow crown with dark outlines and small jewel-like dots on its points. The big cat has yellow eyes, bared fangs and a red tongue, with fine white highlights in its fur. Two near identical photos show the tattoo on the same forearm against a dark background, with a partial tattoo and a chain visible at the edges.

Dear Frank,

The panther is in the rhubarb again, and Mr Hollis has finally stopped shouting at it. He came up the gravel path at seven with his rake held like a musket, saw the great black head rising out of the leaves with its crown tilted over one ear, and simply sat down on the bench to get his breath back. I don't think he has ever been so civil to anything in his life.
You'll remember the crown. Mrs Pryce cut it from tin for the Coronation fair, gilded it with paint she'd got off the Co-op, and pinned it on the cat's head to make the children laugh. Old Pryce says the animal has worn it ever since and won't let anyone take it off, though nobody has really tried. It sits on those fierce ears as if it were born to them, and when it yawns you can see the fangs gleam yellow in the sun, like a row of old piano keys.
I take it liver scraps every morning from the back step. It keeps the greenfly off the gooseberries better than any spray, and the slugs have gone quiet since it started patrolling the bean rows. The gardeners have agreed, without ever saying so, to dig around the square of ground it likes best, so the rhubarb there grows thick and crimson.
Yesterday Pryce came up the drive in his good coat to fetch it home. The cat lifted its head, looked at him with those amber eyes, and went back to sleep. So Pryce took off his cap, sat down in the leaves beside it, and stayed until the light went. I put the kettle on for the pair of them. Your loving sister, Ada
