Crystal ball figure in an ornate frame

Neo-trad · Mixed · Flash

A digitally drawn tattoo design showing a blonde, anime-style figure leaning over a glowing crystal ball, with clock-style numerals and a pale moon-like disc behind. Below the figure sits a red book and a heart-shaped ornament, all enclosed in a symmetrical filigree frame with swirling scrollwork and small sparkles. The linework is bold and outlined, with soft colour shading in gold, purple, red and pale blonde.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The crystal ball rolls off the dashboard somewhere past Cold Haven, and you don't stop the van for it. Mrs Ogden taught you that much. A seer who chases her glass ends up walking. So you let it go and watch it bounce once on the red dust, catching the noon sun like a dropped coin, while the clock numerals painted on the sun visor tick past three.

The road runs straight to a town that only exists on the old railway maps. Mrs Ogden's red book lies open on the passenger seat, its pages crowded with names, weather and prices paid in eggs and boot leather. Every entry is in her looping hand except the last one, which is yours. You wrote it at the last well, a small heart drawn beside a question mark, and then felt foolish and didn't cross it out.

At the crossroads a man in a dusty hat flags you down and asks what the moon says about his brother's debts. You tell him the moon only shows what is already rising over the hill. He pays in coins still warm from his pocket and asks for nothing more, which is the best kind of customer, and he walks off towards the river without looking back.

When you pull away, the mirror holds the valley and, low over the ridge, the pale moon disc sitting slightly lopsided, its numbers pointing at nothing. You stop again. The glass ball has come to rest half-buried in the sand behind the back wheel, and when you lift it out it is warm, and it shows you nothing but your own face, grinning like someone who has finally been told the road ends somewhere good.
