Cupcake with banner flash design

Traditional · Colour · Flash

A coloured drawing of a tattoo design on paper showing a cupcake with swirled pink frosting, a purple bow with a red heart, and a blue striped banner across its base that reads "FUCK MEN GET FAT". Two orange flowers with green leaves sit to the left, with a yellow sun and purple clouds behind. Bold black outlines and smooth colour gradients are used throughout, in a classic flash style.

Mr Lomax from the council sat at the judging table with his tie tucked into his waistcoat and tasted every entry with a little silver spoon. When he got to mine he said, 'Very colourful, Mrs Pell,' and handed it back to me the way you'd return a parking ticket. I didn't argue. I went home, fetched the piping bag and the black food colouring, and spent the evening lettering a blue striped ribbon across the base in the same square capitals Dad used to paint on the bait boxes. Every word of it was true, and I did it on the kitchen table with the wireless on.

Lomax came in Thursday for his usual bun and stopped dead in front of the window. He read the ribbon twice, went the colour of his own tie, and asked whether the cupcake was for sale. I said it was not. I said it was the only honest thing in the shop, and he could pay for a currant bun like everybody else. He bought the bun and left without his change.

The sun's up over the pier this morning, same as the day I decided to stop being polite. The cupcake's on the sill now, going a bit soft at the edges, and I'm not touching it. Come down in August. I'll save you the one with the bow on it.
