Doctor Who scene tattoo across three panels
Neo-trad · Colour · Photo
A three-panel photograph of a large colour tattoo on a limb, showing a blue police box with the words BAD WOLF on its side, a red Dalek, a Cyberman, a Weeping Angel and other figures. The linework is bold and outlined, with soft airbrushed shading in greens, purples and oranges. The scenes wrap around the limb and fill the frame edge to edge.

Dear Nell,

The box is still on platform four. Nobody in the signal box will admit to calling for it, and the depot says there's no record of it leaving the yard since Tuesday. It stands between the newspaper kiosk and the bench where the pigeons queue, blue as a Sunday school jumper, with BAD WOLF painted along its side in letters that sweat a little when it rains. The night porter swears he saw the door open and a man in a brown coat step out, sniff the air, and step back in again without looking at anyone.
The statues came with it, or came after. Three of them stand in the north tunnel now, stone faces turned to the rails, and every time someone looks away from them they are a step nearer the platform edge. Mr Okafor from the ticket office tried to photograph them and says his phone showed nothing but the tunnel wall. Yesterday a Dalek came rattling up the ramp from the car park, shouting about stairs, and a Cyberman had the good manners to queue behind it for a bacon roll. I have never been so glad of a locked door.
Last night I found the logbook open on my desk at the page where I'd written your train times for March. Someone had underlined the word "Wait" three times in a hand I didn't know, and beneath it, in pencil, a single line: the next one is always about to leave.
I've put the kettle on and I'm not going to sit with my back to that box. Come and fetch me on Saturday, or send a ticket I can flash at the barrier.
Love, Maud
