Eagle with Live to Ride banners

Traditional · Black and grey · Flash

A drawn eagle with outstretched, feathered wings faces right, with its talons gripping a ribbon banner that reads LIVE TO RIDE above a smaller RIDE TO LIVE scroll. The feathers and banners are rendered with fine hatched linework and soft grey shading. The design is in black and grey only, and a long blank banner sweeps across the lower left of the composition.

Dear Hannah, the florist has sent carnations when I ordered white roses, and your father has already blamed the van, so you can stop fretting about the table plan. Then he said the sheet would be the first thing the photographer caught, so I said yes, though nobody had asked me.

Do you remember the summer you were nine, when we rode the sidecar along the Clacton front with Grandad? He kept telling you the trick was to keep your eyes on the far end of the promenade and not the wheel. You called him a liar and then wouldn't let go of his coat. I thought of that this morning when Tom came round with a tin of shortbread and asked whether I still had the receipt for the old Brough. He wants to drive you to the reception. I said the Brough went in 1981, and he said he'd find another one by Saturday, which is the sort of thing a man says once he has already found one.

So wear the cream shoes, not the boots. The vicar has been told about the eagle card that Ray insists on pinning to the lectern, and he has taken it very well, considering. I'll be in the front pew with my handbag and a folded hanky, and when the vows are done I will be the first one out of the door to watch you both go down the lane.

Love, Mum. P.S. Ray has found the sheet.
