Fine line script on a forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A thin black cursive script runs diagonally along the forearm, with the letters partly visible and the wording not clearly legible. The linework is fine and even, with solid black ink and no shading, set against warm skin tones. The background shows light blue denim shorts and a white ribbed top, with the cropped frame centred on the arm.

Yesterday I found the notebook she used for the church accounts, the one with the water stain shaped like Ireland. It was only a few words, half rubbed away where someone had leaned on the page. I could not make out the whole of it, and I suppose that is the trouble with most things people leave behind. You spend years assuming you will be told the rest later, over a pot of tea, and then the tea goes cold and the sentence stops.
I am posting this with the pen tucked inside the envelope, so you can try your own luck with the notebook when you come up at Easter. Bring your spectacles. If you can finish the line, write it on the inside of my wrist in that ink you bought from the stationer's on Carver Street, and I will know you have got it right.
