Fine line script words on arm and thigh
Fine line · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
A close photograph of a person's upper arm and hip, with a dark background. The word free is written in thin black cursive on the upper arm, and the word apodyopsis is written in neat black script on the upper thigh, just below the underwear waistband. Both are single-needle style lettering in black ink, shown against pale skin.

Consider the men in the taproom this morning. Mr Pardoe came in with icicles in his moustache and sat so long unwinding his scarves that the girl had to bring him a second cup of tea just to keep him company. He said nothing, but when at last he stood he looked lighter, as though the whole road had come off him with the wool. I wrote the word on the back of the bill of fare and pinned it to the kitchen door. Now the cook says she will use it for her apron strings, which she refuses to tie any tighter.
The coach is due when the drifts settle, and I have decided to be easy in my own mind until then. I have stopped scratching the days into the window frame. Tonight I will bank the fire, lay out the good sheets and let the wind do its worst.
Write back and tell me what the word means to you, if anything. I suspect you will say something sharp about my spelling of it.
Your loving sister, Maud
