Fishing rod and hook tattoos on two forearms
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The photo shows two matching tattoos on the inner forearms, each combining a fishing motif with script lettering beneath it. The left design is a fishing rod and reel with a dangling line, and the right is a hook with a heart-shaped element. The shading is grey and black with soft cloud-like smudges behind the lettering.

The last time we went out together, off the breakwater at Porthleven, you had the cheap blue reel and I had his good one with the cork handle. You tied the wrong knot on purpose so I'd have to show you again. Eleven mackerel, and the gulls followed us all the way up the slipway, screaming like they were owed money. Nobody caught anything worth keeping that day, but you kept the feathered lure in your coat pocket for twenty years.
I found it in the lining when I was packing your winter things into the trunk. Someone, probably you, had written CAUGHT on the card tied to its hook in biro, then crossed it out and written it again, pressing harder the second time.
I've enclosed it. Hang it on the nail by the back door, where his tackle box used to sit, and then you'll know it's yours. Write back with a proper address this time, love, not a seagull.
