Geometric polygon sleeve on a forearm
Geometric · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A black and grey tattoo of interlocking hexagons, cubes and angular polygons covers the forearm, fading out towards the top edge. The linework mixes solid outlines with dotted lines, and some shapes are shaded with dots. The bare forearm is set against a grey wall, and the wearer's shirt bears a printed old map.

Below her, the valley was a honeycomb of cells, each one a settlement, a pumping station, a patch of salt-bush that had decided to live. Half the council called them drainage. The other half called them a map of somewhere else.
She finished the last dotted edge at dusk and walked the notebook down to the depot. Rafi was on the gate with a lamp, and when he read the entry he laughed, then stopped. The shaded cell at the bottom corner, the one she had hatched in dots, had not been there yesterday. He held the lamp over it. Neither of them said anything about it. Teodora tore out the page and folded it into her breast pocket, where it stayed warm all night.
