Georgia Peach outline tattoo
Fine line · Black and grey · Photo
A single peach is drawn in a thin black outline, with a curled stem and a leaf to one side. The script words Georgia Peach sit below the fruit in the same black ink. The photograph is taken straight on, in black and white, with the design centred on plain skin.

Dear Ruth, the peach stone came through the post in the biscuit tin you sent, bruised but breathing, and I have put it in the north corner of the kitchen garden where the frost lies longest. Prior Osric says a peach will not take in Dorset clay. I told him the Lord who made the orchards of Galilee can manage a little clay. He called it blasphemy and gave me the spade anyway.

It came up in March, two leaves no bigger than a fingernail, and the stem curls at the top like a question nobody has asked yet. Brother Cuthbert, who was a signwriter before the Lord called him, came out with his pen and sat on the mounting block for an hour. He drew the fruit in one unbroken line, the way he says a thing must be done, and would not let me look until it was finished.
Then he lettered the name beneath it in his tidy copperplate, Georgia Peach, because he says a tree should be named the way a man is named, by the place it came from. Osric read it over his shoulder at Compline and said nothing, which from Osric is a blessing. The stone is in the ground now, and the drawing is in the margin of the psalter where the ink is still drying.
Come at harvest if the roads allow. Bring another tin, and bring Mother's knife, because I have no idea how a brother is meant to eat a peach without making a mess of the Office. Your loving brother, Anselm.
