Gerbera daisy on upper arm
Botanical · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
A single gerbera-style daisy is tattooed on the outer upper arm, shown from a close, slightly angled view. The petals use outlined linework with grey shading that fades toward their tips, and the centre is filled with dense black dotwork-like texture. The ink is entirely black and grey, set against plain skin and a car seat in the background.

Nobody ever saw who left them. Her son Dennis swore it was the milkman, but the milkman had no reason to leave flowers, and the bread van was the only thing on that road that never stopped. So one February she sat up in the flour loft with a torch and a flask of tea and waited. She heard a bicycle bell, two rings, then nothing, and when she came down the stairs the bucket was there, and a girl in a long green coat was already gone round the corner with her collar up.
The flowers were too wide to sell and too ragged to bake with, so Mrs Tully pressed them flat between greaseproof paper and the pages of the parish ledger. In the morning she found a note tucked under the bucket's rim, in pencil: "Keep the middles dark. They hold the sun in." That was the whole of it. She never learned the girl's name, and I never learned it either, but she kept the bucket on the step for thirty winters, and the flour never once went sour on her.
