Goonies never say die script on lower back

Lettering · Back · Black and grey · Photo

A close photograph of a script tattoo across the lower back reading Goonies never say die, with flowing letters of varying size arranged on two lines. The lettering is mostly solid black with grey shading and softer blue-grey tones along some strokes. The text fills most of the frame on bare skin above the waistband of dark clothing, with a blurred red background at the left edge.

Dear Tomasz,

The boat came in on Tuesday with the nets torn to ribbons and Dad sitting on the wheelhouse step like a man who has counted his money and found it short. Mum has stopped asking when the yard will have the new winch. I told her we could sail out to Skerry Point on the spring tide and nobody laughed, which I took as a yes.

You will say I have been reading too many old adventure books. Maybe. But on Thursday I found the tin box under the stairs, the one with the rusted hinge and Grandad's bent compass inside, and a page torn from the Harbour Log from 1961 showing a cave marked with an X beside the Gannet Rocks. Nobody in the fleet believes in it. Mr Pell says the cave flooded before the war. I told him what Grandad used to say at the wheel when the sea went white: never say die, lad, the fish are only waiting for us to be braver than the weather.

So we go Saturday, before light, you and me and the dinghy with the cracked oar. Bring the torch and the tin of ginger biscuits. If the swell is too much we turn back, I promise, but I have a feeling about the water this week. Mum says it is my stomach talking.

Come home. The kettle is on and I have saved you the last of the good bread.

Love, Ewan
