Black ink lettering tattoo on a lower leg, styled as a handwritten list of short phrases in a post-apocalyptic theme.

Handwritten list tattoo on a calf

Lettering · Calf · Black and grey · Photo

A long handwritten-style list of phrases is tattooed in black ink down the calf, with a few horizontal rules dividing the text into sections. The lettering uses clean, uniform outlines with no shading, and the text is arranged in a centred, slightly staggered layout across the full length of the leg. The image is a close, straight-on photograph against a purple towel and a dark padded surface.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Ada had run out of stamp ink on the hundred and twentieth day, so she wrote the intake by hand, the way her father taught her at the Fenmoor depot, pencil held low and the letters leaning into each other. The man at the gate had arrived on a flatbed with a V8 that coughed like a dying dog, and he kept his back to the sun while she worked down the form. Name: none given. Water: carried in. Fuel: none, he said, and she wrote that down anyway.

The rules were pinned to the fence in four lines. Everyone who came through got checked, fed and read the lines aloud, and the one she hated writing was always the one about isolating anyone who had gone strange on the road. She asked him what he wanted calling in the log. He said the road had stopped using names a long time ago, and that he'd last been called anything at a rundown on the Powder Lakes, where the engine had been the only thing worth fighting over. He said it flatly, like a shopping list.

When she reached the bottom of the form, the box marked reason for admission was still empty. She looked at the fence, then at him, then at the pencil in her hand. He asked for a pencil of his own, and she gave him hers. He wrote on the back of the sheet without hurrying, then slid it across the crate between them.

It said: Ada, one good ledger, no ink, keep.

She read it twice, put the dead stamp in the drawer, and wrote Admitted across the empty box, pressing so hard the lead snapped.
