Handwritten quote tattoo on upper arm
Lettering · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
A black ink quote reads "its is my life" with "Jon Bovi" beneath it, set in a casual handwritten style. The linework is solid and even, with no shading, and the surrounding skin shows light freckling and some redness. The close crop centres the lettering on the upper arm against plain skin.

Sit down, the lot of you, and mind the wind, it's been coming over Harrow Gap since before your grandmothers were born. You want the tale of the stone at the top? Then hear it properly. Years back the toll-keepers paid a mason called Edwin Pell four shillings to cut a waystone for travellers, a board to read before the long drop down to Clennick. He was a stubborn man with better hands than spelling, and he took his instructions from old Maud at the inn, who swore by one saying all her life. He wrote it down in pencil on the back of a feed sack, and the sack is still in a drawer in Clennick, if you doubt me.

He cut it that spring, letters deep enough to hold snow. The words ran its is my life, and beneath them, because the drover Hal Tobin had shouted it loudest across the bar, the name of Hal Tobin. Travellers stopped to read it and argued about the spelling for a mile. Ada Pell, the mason's daughter, climbed up with a chisel one dark morning and begged her father to fix it. He told her the stone was finished and so was he, and that a thing said plainly needed no apology. She went back down and never mentioned it again.
The pass got a new name after that. Carters called it Is My Life Gap and laughed about it over their pipes, and the strangest thing was how many of them, reading those crooked letters, went on up the hill lighter than they came. Wind and frost have been at the stone for a hundred years. The apostrophe is gone now, and the first word has gone soft at the edges. But you can still make it out from the road, and if you go up tomorrow you'll see Hal Tobin's name still standing there, plain as the day it was cut.
