Quote in script across the top of a foot
Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
A close photograph of a foot showing a fine black script tattoo that reads taking my journey one step at a time. The lettering runs diagonally from near the ankle toward the toes, with slightly uneven spacing and a looping, handwritten feel. The ink is solid black against pale skin, and the background shows a dark textured surface.

You asked me in the cloister last week what the Rule says about haste. I have no idea who wrote it. Nobody here does. But I thought of you at once, lad, always wanting to be at the end before the beginning was finished.
Go slowly where the path goes to bog. The stones at Cold Beck are loose, and you will want both hands for the wall. Send word by the carter at Michaelmas, even if it is only a single line on the back of a tithe receipt.
Your brother in Christ and in impatience, Edwin
