Heart, medicine bottle and spoon on thigh
Neo-trad · Thigh · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows a green medicine bottle with a dark lid, a silver spoon tilted behind it, and a red heart in front with the words I Love Lucy in black script. Bold black outlines define the shapes, with smooth red and green shading and small pale blue sparkles scattered around the bottle. The design is centred on the outer thigh against plain, evenly lit skin.

Mrs Pringle had been dosing the whole of Hollin Bank with green tonic since 1961, and she was not about to be told by a boy from the county council that the recipe had changed. Arthur Dunning stood in her back room holding a clipboard as though it might bite him. "It's the bottle, Mrs Pringle. They've banned the bottle with the cork in it."

She took the spoon from the drawer, the silver one with the chipped bowl, and tapped it twice against the rim of the tonic. "Forty years I've measured with this spoon. Forty years nobody's died."
"Nobody's died yet," said Arthur.
Lucy, her niece, came through from the shop with a tray of cough sweets and the look of someone who had already settled the argument. She had painted the red heart on the side of the label herself two summers back, I Love Lucy scrawled across it in her best copperplate, which everyone in town agreed was a cheek and a half. "Gran, just let him take the new one. It tastes of lemons."
"It tastes of nothing. That's the trouble with progress." Mrs Pringle poured a dose into the spoon and held it up to the window, where the green glowed like a lighthouse lamp. Arthur watched her swallow, then watched her face do something complicated. Then she smiled, a proper one, and said, "Well. Lemons, then."
