Hogwarts crest on a thigh
Traditional · Thigh · Colour · Photo
A bold colour tattoo of the Hogwarts school crest sits on the front of a thigh, showing a shield split into red, green, yellow and blue quarters with a gold outline and a central H emblem. A HOGWARTS banner runs across the shield, with green leaves, a red flower and black scrollwork below and around it. Thick black outlines and solid fills give it a classic traditional look against the skin.

The paint on the wheelhouse door had to set before the tide turned, so Nell Trevail worked in the grey light with a rag tucked into her collar and her late father's sign-writing brush between her teeth. Four boats lay against the quay at Porthgwen, and by Friday each would carry the same shield: red and green above, gold and blue below, a bright H at the centre and a banner across the waist. Her uncle had drawn the scrollwork on the transfers and sworn it was the last thing he would ever do with a pencil.

The banner was the trouble. Her cousin Jory wanted the boat names on it, the Kestrel and the Morwenna and the rest, but Nell had her grandfather's word in her head, the one he bellowed at gulls and at the Council man alike. He had never got past the village schoolroom and talked about a stone castle in the hills until the whole harbour could recite it. "Hogwarts," she painted slowly, letter by letter, while Jory swore at the wind.
The fleet went out on the Saturday in fog thick enough to swallow the breakwater. By noon the radio had gone quiet, and by four Nell was on the wall with the paraffin lamp, though nobody had asked her to stand there. She heard the Tern before she saw it, the engine coughing like an old man on stairs. Then the fog thinned, and there was the blue quarter of the shield, bright on the bow, and behind it the gold H catching the lamplight as the boat rounded the wall. Jory's Kestrel followed, red as a cut, and the harbour counted them in until all four were home.
