Jake and Finn outline tattoo under wrap
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two cartoon characters, Jake the dog and Finn the human, are drawn in simple black outline on the forearm. The tattoo sits under clear film and white tape, which suggests it is freshly done, and the lines are even and clean. The photograph is black and white, with a hand with dark nail polish holding the wrist in the foreground and a plain grey background.

They climbed to the bakery at the top of the hill, where the baker's wife had left a tray of saffron buns cooling on the sill. Jake went up the iron drainpipe first, legs splayed, body pulled thin as wire across the gutter. He hooked the tray with his nose and let it slide down the length of himself like a rope of taffy, until Finn caught it in his white cap, grinning.
Below them a constable was whistling under the gaslights. Finn held his breath. Jake had been stretched for a quarter of an hour and could not gather himself quickly, so he pressed flat against the wall and went as grey as the stones. The constable looked up, looked straight through the dog, and walked on.
Finn ate the buns on the church steps while the bells struck two. Jake came back to his proper shape in a warm heap beside him and dreamed, twitching, of a town where everything could be reached. At first light the sill was empty again, and on the cobbles someone had left a single white cap, folded in four, with a bun tucked inside.
