Lightsaber tattoos on two fingers
Hand · Mixed · Photo
Two fingers are held together, each with a lightsaber tattoo running along the finger. The left finger has a green blade and the right has a red blade, both with grey-black hilts drawn in simple outline and shading. The fingers fill the frame against a pale background, with the thumb visible at the top.

Old Tamsin kept two grafting knives in the lean-to behind the cider press, and every September she took them out to sharpen them before the Pippin pickers came. The handles were bone, worn pale where thumbs had gone for forty years. Her two sons had never wanted them. Both had gone down the valley to the mills and come back only at Michaelmas.

Then the blight came into the bottom orchard, a grey dust on the leaves that spread from tree to tree like a rumour. The men said the trees would have to be cut out and burned. Tamsin said nothing. She walked the rows at dusk with a lantern and a knife in each hand, and where she found a canker she took it clean, the way her mother had taught her, and the wood beneath was white and sound.
Her boys came up the lane one evening, one with a sack of cloth and one with a tin of pitch, expecting to argue. They found her under the Bramley, the two blades glowing faintly green and red in the lantern light, cutting steadily as moths. Neither boy asked how. They took up the knives that were left on the bench and worked beside her until the frost came.
In spring the bottom orchard bloomed twice as heavy as it ever had. The village still tells it at the wassail: that the knives remember the trees they saved, and that if you hold two blades together over a sick branch, the bark will heal by morning. Tamsin never confirmed this. She only kept the bench swept.
