Long-limbed guitarist tattoo on a limb

Other · Black and grey · Photo

A tall, stylised figure with spiky hair, a striped top and laced boots plays a guitar, with a second figure's head and arm visible above. The design uses bold black outlines with sketchy hatching and soft grey shading on the limbs and clothing. It is shown on a bare limb, filling most of the frame from top to bottom.

Her shirt was the blue-striped one her nan had knitted, too warm for August and too stubborn to take off. She'd sweated through it by the second song, and the stripes went dark at the ribs where the guitar strap bit into her. Every time she leaned back to find the high notes, the neck of the Gibson swung up past the lights like a rifle being shouldered, and the front row cheered as if it had planned it.

Marnie sat on the kerb under the chip shop sign, one long leg stretched out into the gutter, and worked the cord back through the eyelets with the patience of someone threading a needle in the dark. Dev leaned in the doorway, counting the takings twice because the first count made him sad.

She pulled the knot tight and stood, and the boot took her weight like it had been waiting all night. "Two quid for the merch," she said. "Four for the lace, if anyone asks." We drove home with the windows down and the stripes drying on her, and not one of us said the lace was the best bit of the night.
