Lumberjack quote tattoo on upper back
Lettering · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A woman's upper back and neck show a small black tattoo of text reading I'm a LUMBERJACK and I'M OK, with an axe-like tool drawn between the lines. The lettering is crisp and evenly weighted, and the illustration uses simple solid black linework with minimal shading. The plain white background keeps attention on the small design, which sits centrally between the shoulder blades.

He didn't look up from the tin he was trying to open with a butter knife. Down in Hollin Wood, he said, a man had felled a beech on the wrong side of the stream and got a fine for it, and the fine had been paid in cash, and nobody had asked where the cash came from. Ruth said that was not what she was talking about. He said it was exactly what she was talking about, she just hadn't got there yet.
She went out to the woodshed instead. The axe was where it had always been, its handle worn pale where three generations of hands had held it, and she took it down and sat on the chopping block and waited for the rain to ease off. After a while her father came out with two mugs of tea and a biscuit balanced on each saucer, and set one down beside her without a word.
They drank in silence. Eventually she laughed, a short bark that startled a wood pigeon off the gutter. Her father nodded at the axe, at the trees beyond the fence, at the sky going the colour of a spent match. Fine, he said. Redundant's just a word. We'll be all right.
