Neo-trad · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
A neo-traditional tattoo of the horned sorceress Maleficent, holding a staff, with a dragon rising behind her head. Bold dark outlines and smooth shading sit against vivid green and purple, with orange flames curling along the bottom edge. Three panels show the front and both sides of an upper arm piece, with a raven perched at the rear.

The raven had been dead three days when Isolde Varrow finally stopped pretending the castle was still hers to keep. At the top of the east tower the dragon waited, or what remained of it: a skeleton of ribs and a long jaw strung with pale threads, its eye sockets still holding a faint ember. Her grandmother had bargained with it for the winters, and Isolde had never liked that bargain. She set the staff against the parapet and the orange fire along its shaft guttered, then leapt higher, as if it had been waiting for her too.
'You owe me no service,' she told it. The skull turned with a sound like a gate in wind. Below, the moat had gone the colour of pewter, and the raven lay on the courtyard flagstones where she had left it, its feathers lifting and settling in the draught. She had not been sad to see it fall. She had been sad to learn who had sent it.
She drew the old contract from her sleeve, folded and damp, and read it aloud until the jaws opened and smoke curled out like a sigh. 'Then we are done,' she said. The green fire in the orb went out, and for the first time in her life the castle was quiet enough to hear the rain stop.
