Moon and palm trees beach scene on forearm
Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows a tropical beach at night, with two large moons, dark palm tree silhouettes and a sky filled with stars. The shading is soft and painterly, with blended blues, teals and greens in the sky and water, and pinks and oranges in the sand and sea at the bottom. The image shows the same forearm tattoo twice side by side, with the design wrapping around the arm.

Right, pass me that blanket and stop wriggling, because this is the one about the two moons, and you only get it once a week. Out past the reef at Keel Bay there used to be only one moon, a big cold thing that hung over the palms like a lamp nobody had bothered to light. The fishermen were content with it. Old Marigold Teague, who kept the tea hut at the top of the sand, was not. She said a beach with only one moon was a beach that was lying about its dreams.

So one August she crept down at midnight with a pot of sea-green paint and a brush she'd made from the tail of her late cat, and she painted a second moon into the sky for the sake of company. Nobody saw her do it. The palms bent in the wind to watch, and the water came up pink and orange to see what the fuss was. By morning there were two moons over the bay, one pale as a digestive biscuit and the other a soft violet, and the sand had gone the colour of toffee.
The trouble started with the tides. The two moons quarrelled over whose pull was whose, the sea sloshed up the beach to settle it, and Marigold lost four tables and a sugar bowl before she got down there in her dressing gown and asked them nicely to share. They agreed, but only if she let them take turns, and that is why, when one moon is sulking behind the palms, the other is out fishing for stars with a net made of her paint-stained apron strings. Now go to sleep.
