Nautical tattoo flash sheet
Traditional · Mixed · Flash
A dense, evenly spaced pattern of nautical tattoo flash on a cream background, with designs including a lighthouse, whale, swallow, playing cards, squid, ship and guitar. Bold navy outlines are paired with red accents for details such as the swallow's wing, the lighthouse stripes and the small asterisks filling the gaps. The composition is a repeating all-over layout with no single focal point.

Marguerite had the ovens lit by half four, the only hour the harbour belonged to bakers and gulls. She counted the sweeps the way her father had taught her, three and a pause, while the first tray of bloomers went in.

Her cousin Tobias came in from the yard smelling of diesel and wet rope, cap pushed back, a sodden map in one fist. He had fished it out of a bottle that washed up by the fish market, the cork sealed with green wax, and he wanted her opinion on whether the dashed line ran to the island or simply gave up halfway. She wiped her hands, pinned the chart flat with a salt cellar and a deck of playing cards from the Christmas shift, and bent over it with flour on her wrists.
They argued about the wax, and about whether anyone who sealed a bottle that carefully would draw a route that went nowhere. Tobias traced the dashes with a floury finger and frowned at the faded X at their end. Then he looked at the back door, at the sack of rye propped against the step, and at the chalk mark someone had scrawled on its burlap years ago.
Marguerite laughed until she had to sit on the bread bin. Grey light was creeping over the breakwater and the beam was thinning to nothing. She slid the first loaf onto the sill to cool and told him the island had been right here all along, sitting under the flour where nobody thought to look.
