Pink botanical coral-style tattoo on a woman's forearm near the wrist, with a white lace top and gold ring visible.

Pink coral design on the wrist

Botanical · Forearm · Colour · Photo

A single bright pink coral or seaweed-like motif sits on the outer forearm near the wrist, with a lighter pink wash and a thin stem extending downward. The solid fills and soft gradients give it a flat, painted look, and it appears to be a temporary tattoo. The image is framed from the waist up to the hand, with a white lace top, dark jeans and a gold ring in the frame.

Right, hush now, and let the kettle wait. Nobody in Hetton Dene had ever seen the sea, not in my mother's time nor hers, yet the pink sprig in Jack Carrick's cabinet came all the way from the Northumberland shore, so mind how you handle it.

Jack went down the pit at fourteen, same as his father, and the cage swallowed him every morning for forty years. Each Whitsun the colliery band marched to the coast for the day, and each Whitsun Jack came home with sand in his boots and nothing in his hands. Then the year the strike ended, he walked the length of the rocks at Cullercoats until he found a frond of coral the colour of a boiled sweet, and he carried it back folded in his cap like a love letter.

Edie pressed it flat between the pages of the Bible, and it stayed there until the winter the lamps went out for good. The men scattered to Ashington or to nothing at all. Jack kept the sprig on the windowsill where the light came through, and he'd tell anyone who'd sit still that the sea was only a bit further off than the pit was deep.

When they buried him, Edie laid the frond on his chest, so pale by then it was almost lace. The lad who dug the grave swore the whole churchyard smelled of salt for a week, and I've never once argued with him.
