Red rose tattoo with green leaves and a small bud on the outer forearm, drawn in a coloured botanical illustration style.

Red rose on a forearm

Botanical · Forearm · Colour · Photo

A full red rose in bloom sits on the forearm, with a smaller closed bud at the top left and several green leaves below. The petals are shaded with darker reds and lighter highlights to show depth, and the leaves have fine vein detail. The design sits against plain pale skin and a neutral wall, with a woman's hand resting on her jeans pocket and a lace top at the left edge of the frame.

Then his eye caught the small closed bud at the top, and his face changed. He had a daughter in Lyon who had asked him for one every spring since she was six.

He let me pass for the price of a second look, and I did not refuse him. Some things cross a border simply by being wanted.

In the walled garden of Madame Roux, I cut the moss away and stood the stem in a jug of rainwater. By morning the closed bud had split along one edge, pale at the rim, and the wind coming off the pass slid through the open window and smelled faintly of snow.
