Plumeria and swirl vine foot tattoo
Botanical · Other · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows three pink plumeria flowers with white highlights, a black tribal-style motif, and black curling vines with small green leaf accents. The black linework is bold and even, with the pink petals and green dots filled in with soft shading. The design spreads diagonally across the top of the foot, with the flowers and vines framing the central black shape.

Dear Ruth,

The parcel came on Tuesday, the same week the ewes started lambing in the wet, and I nearly left it on the step with the feed sacks. Inside was a bent grey stick wrapped in newspaper from Funchal, and a note from your Aunt Maud saying it was a plumeria cutting and I was not to water it for a month. I have never seen anything so dead-looking. The bark is wrinkled like an old glove and there is not a leaf on it.
I did as I was told. I put it on the windowsill above the Rayburn, where the cat sleeps, and left it alone. Frost furred the yard every night and the ice on the trough was thick enough to stand a spoon in. Mr Hallam from the next farm laughed when I told him, but he came round on Sunday all the same, pretending he wanted a look at the ram, and asked me twice whether I had heard from you.
Last week a small green nub broke at the tip, no bigger than a bead of rain. I stand at the sink in my dressing gown each morning now just to check it hasn't gone soft. Tell Maud the flowers she promised are coming, pink at the rim and white in the middle, and I'll bring you a cutting at Easter if you can keep the cat off it.
Love, Dot
