Realistic green eye with script on forearm
Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A realistic green eye with detailed lashes and a bright iris is shown emerging through torn, flesh-toned skin on the forearm. Below it, black handwritten script runs in several lines across the forearm, with fine linework in the lettering and soft shading and blending in the eye and skin. The palette is mainly greens, oranges and reds with black text, and the tattoo fills the frame against a green top.

Sit closer, the wind up here takes half of what I say and gives back the wrong half. Yes, the pass. You can see the cairn from where you're sitting, the one with the rusted iron ring bolted to it. My grandmother's grandmother swore a man walked over that ridge in the year the snow came early, carrying a letter he could not read aloud, because the words were in his own hand and he did not remember writing them.

The letter ran down his forearm in black ink, line under line, and above it something was looking out through a torn place in his skin. The eye was green as the bottom of a glacier lake, and it watched the road the way a cat watches a hole. When the shepherds asked what it wanted, he only held up his wrist and let them read. Every line promised he would come home to a village in the valley. Every line ended in the same word, and the word was not a name.
They carried him down to Ilse, who kept the inn at the foot of the pass and had lost a brother to that same road. She read the lines aloud by the stove, slowly, with her finger under each word, and the eye turned in its socket to follow her voice. Halfway down the arm she stopped. The last line was written in her brother's hand, and it told her not to come looking.
So we do not walk the pass after the first frost. And if you ever see a green eye open in the rock beside the iron ring, do not stop to read what is written under it. Finish your tea. The road is always clearer in daylight.
