Realistic lion head tattoo on upper arm
Realism · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
A photorealistic lion's head with a full mane is being tattooed on the outer upper arm, with the lion's gaze turned upward and to the side. The fur is rendered with soft, blended shading in tan, brown and grey, with fine strands along the mane and whiskers. A tattooist's gloved hands and a tattoo machine are visible at the top right of the frame.

Snow had come in sideways overnight, and by the time Nell Ashby had the kettle on, the yard was a white sheet with the gate buried to its hinges. Her grandfather's lion still sat on the barn gable where he had hauled it up with a block and tackle the year the roof went. Sandstone, its mane worn smooth by eighty winters of rain, it had always looked past the house toward the ridge, as if it were waiting for someone to come down the track.

Her brother Sam came in stamping, cheeks raw. "Speckle's gone through the bottom field fence. Four lambs with her, I reckon." He dropped his gloves on the range. "I'm not going up there in this."
Nell pulled her boots on without answering. She knew the ridge path, knew the place where the wall dropped into a dip and the wind packed snow like flour in a bowl. She took the lantern and the crook and left the door open behind her so the cold would follow her out.
The light was thin and blue when she reached the dip. Speckle stood with her back to the wind, lambs pressed against her flanks, and beyond them the snow had been swept clean along the top of the wall in a long curling ridge, like the edge of a wave. Nell looked back down, and there on the gable the lion's stone face was catching the first thin sun, its mane lit gold with frost. Her grandfather had always said the lion watched for lost things. She had never believed him, but she slid the crook under the first lamb and felt, just for a moment, that she was being seen.
