Red lace garter tattoo with bow
Realism · Thigh · Colour · Photo
A red tattoo of a lace garter wraps around the skin, with a scrolling lace pattern and a bow at the front that has ribbon ends hanging down. The lace is drawn with fine red linework and shading, and the ribbon is rendered with darker tones to give depth. The design is in a single red ink against pale skin, and the band runs across the frame with the bow at the centre-left.

Dear Win, You will not believe what Mrs Aldous sold me on Thursday. I was only after darning wool, but there it was under the glass at the back of her stall, a garter of red lace, the colour of a pillar box after rain, with a bow stitched at the front and two ribbon ends that hang as if they've been dipped in ink. She said it had come off a girl who went off to Leeds and never came back for it. I paid four shillings and felt a fool for it all the way home.

Saturday was the Palais, as you know, and the band was playing something brassy so loud the floor shook under our shoes. Ted Harker asked me for the third dance and I said yes before I could think about it. When the lights went low I thought of the girl in Leeds, and I laughed so hard Ted asked if I'd been at the cider.
Here is the odd part. On the way out, a woman in a green coat stopped me by the cloakroom and asked, very quietly, whether I had found it yet. I said found what. She only nodded at my hem, smiled as if she'd lost a bet, and walked off into the rain. I have decided it was her garter, and that she is glad I kept it.
Do write back. I want to know if you think I should wear it again on Saturday, or whether I should give it back to Mrs Aldous before it gets me into trouble.
Love, Dot
