Scissors and straight razor on forearms
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two forearms are shown side by side, each with a shaded black and grey tattoo: a pair of hairdressing scissors on the left and a folding straight razor on the right. Both tools have ornate engraved handles with soft grey shading and fine outlines. A flower outline appears above the left arm, and a crown-like line pattern and a dotted band sit near the left wrist.

"You hold it like it owes you money," he said. "Lighter. The blade does the work, not your wrist." She didn't answer. She took the scissors from the tray instead, the pair with the scrolled handles his own father had bought off a man in Ramsgate, and snipped twice at the air to hear them sing.
Customers came and went. Mr Doyle wanted his sideburns taken down a quarter inch. A boy of nine wanted a number two all over and got a lecture on sunburn. Between them Mags swept hair into the pan and kept glancing at the leather case on the shelf with the cracked lid, the one Aldous had never once let anyone else carry.
At five, when the blinds came down, he finally opened the case and laid the razor in her palm. It was lighter than she expected. "Your grandfather's," he said. "Mind the spine. It's the only thing in here that still remembers him." She closed her fingers around it, and found that her hand was already steady.
