Script phrase and orange ribbon on a foot
Lettering · Other · Mixed · Photo
A bare foot with black cursive script that reads I'll stand by you across the top, next to a filled orange awareness ribbon. The script has smooth, even linework with a little shading, and the ribbon is solid orange with a simple outline. The photograph has been processed so the background and skin are greyscale while the ribbon and painted toenails keep their orange colour.

The keeper was Tobias Harl, and his wife Ruth could not abide the sea. Every gale night she sat at the foot of the stair with a candle stub, and every gale night he climbed to the lamp and wound the clockwork by hand, because the engine would not hold through a blow. She said the light was his business and the wind was none of hers. He said that was no sort of answer.
The night the glass cracked, the whole top of the tower shook like a dog coming out of the water. Tobias came down the iron ladder with blood on his cheek and found Ruth still there at the stair foot, the candle guttering in her fist. She did not ask him to come down. She said, I'll stand by you, and she held the ladder steady while he climbed back up to fix the shutter.
Come morning the lantern of a passing steamer came round the headland, and the Maggie Ann was not on the rocks after all. That is the whole of it. Mind, I'd still keep that ribbon dry, for it has seen more weather than the both of us.
