Script phrase on the back of a wrist
Fine line · Hand · Black and grey · Photo
A hand is held in a close crop showing a thin black script tattoo across the wrist and back of the hand, reading roughly 'Daddy's little girl' with a trailing ellipsis at the end. The linework is fine and even, with the letters sitting at a slight upward slant and no shading or added colour. A sheer white fabric is at the left edge and a dark background sits behind the hand, with a jewelled ring on one finger.

Dear Maud,

The gulls have got into the bins again and Mrs Penhallow says the crab boats are coming in late, which means nobody on the quay can agree on the tide. I've been sitting at the kitchen table with the radio off, trying to write this without it sounding like the shipping forecast.
I found your school report under the stairs on Sunday, the one with the brown tea stain across the bottom. "A bright girl who asks too many questions," it says, in Mr Dunn's wobbly capitals. I laughed until I had to sit on the bottom step. You were seven and you counted every flash of the lighthouse from the sea wall, out loud, so the whole harbour knew when you'd lost your place.
I've packed the kettle in the box with the rest and sold the Mary Ellen to the Hosken lad. Our Jean says there's a room over her chip shop in Penzance with a view of the bay, and I said yes before I could change my mind. Don't argue with me about it. The house will still be here when you come home at Easter, and I'll have the spare key cut for you.
The brass compass is on the mantel. Take it back with you when you go. It still points true when the rest of me doesn't, and you always were the one who knew which way was north. Keep it somewhere you can see the water.
Love always, Dad
P.S. Still your daddy's little girl...
