Sheet of pentagram and sigil temporary tattoo designs

Geometric · Mixed · Flash

A printed sheet of temporary tattoo designs laid on a wooden table, with pentagrams, a sun-like motif, circular star patterns, a square with symbols and a few small script-like marks. Most of the linework is solid black with a bold pink swirl, and some designs are outlined in thin reddish-brown lines. The designs are arranged across the page with small application instructions printed along the bottom edge.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The petrol light came on at the bottom of a long grade, forty miles past the last town, and the only lit sign for a hundred miles was Hollis General, a tin-roofed shop with one pump and a rack of postcards bleached pale by the sun. Carla Voss had the bell going before Dev could get his wallet out, and she was already reaching for a card on the spinning rack by the till. "You'll want these," she said. "That road is full of things that don't like a man in a hurry."

The sheet she pushed across the counter was printed on thin paper: pentagrams with sawtooth flames, a square of bordered marks, a ring of symbols that looked like a clock somebody had argued with. Along the bottom ran instructions in tiny capitals. Peel the backing. Lay the face down on clean, dry skin. Press with a damp cloth for thirty seconds. Do not rub. Dev laughed, paid for the diesel and the sheet, and tossed it onto the passenger seat, where it slid to the mats.

He reached the dry lake bed before dusk and stopped to stretch his back. Something had come away from the sheet and stuck to the inside of his wrist, a small black sun with its rays curling like smoke. He rubbed it with his thumb and it did not smudge. He soaked his handkerchief at the tap by the rest stop and pressed it on, counting under his breath, and when he lifted the cloth the sun sat exactly where it had been, dry as paint.

He drove back to Hollis at first light, not sure what he meant to say. The shop was dark, the pump padlocked, but the rack of cards had been turned to face the road. On the top one, a pentagram had been drawn in fresh pink ink, and beneath it, in Carla's neat hand, was a single line: Thirty seconds. Then wait for the sun.
